Teresa’s Venison

What do you do, when you are offered meat from a friend’s recent hunt? You ask for their favourite recipe! I like wild meat but don’t care too much of the game taste. The meat from this recipe is tender and flavourful and doesn’t hide the taste of the venison.


6-8 deer steaks or a roast
1 pkg onion soup mix
1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup packed brown sugar


Set oven at 350 degrees.
Salt meat fairly well on all sides and place in a greased or sprayed rectangular baking pan. (I used a pyrex glass pan).
Mix together the remaining ingredients in a separate bowl.
Spread mixture onto the meat.
Cover lightly with foil.
Bake in preheated oven for 1 hour.

This recipe also lends itself well to the slow cooker! Cook on low for 6 hours or high for 4.

Serve with rice (wild is best) and corn on the cob, or niblets on the side or mixed with rice. Picture was taken with leftovers a day later!
